Classic Jet · Old-school dogfights with AA guns and bomb runs over river map

Overview

Classic Jet is the retro pick. Four named airframes — Spitfire Mk XIV, F-86 Sabre, B-25 Mitchell, Tu-2 Tactical — fly over a procedurally generated river map. The world is 4,200 × 2,600 wide. You scroll the camera as you fly, AA guns shoot at you from the ground, and enemy waves spawn until wave 8.

It is unapologetically arcade. Fire pace is fast. Bombers (B-25, Tu-2) drop ordnance on the river crossings; fighters (Spitfire, Sabre) tear up enemy fighters. Upgrades are simple and per-frame — no deep career.

After wave 8, the difficulty curve flattens — enemy spawn count and toughness keep climbing but no new mechanics. It is the cleanest "just-play" Skywar title.

How to play

  1. Pick an airframe, spawn, fly to the engagement.
  2. Strafe AA, dogfight enemy fighters, bomb river crossings (bombers only).
  3. Hold the line through 8 waves. Survive longer for a higher score.

Frame role

Spitfire Mk XIV and F-86 Sabre are pure fighters — fast, light, anti-air. B-25 Mitchell and Tu-2 Tactical carry bombs and a heavier silhouette. You score better in fighters against waves; bombers earn more on ground targets.

River map

A procedural river path winds across the map. Bridges and crossings are bombable ground objectives. Enemy AA emplacements cluster around them — strafing AA first is usually safer than ignoring it.

Tips & strategy

  • Wave 1-3 is the easy ramp. Use it to learn the engagement range of your frame.
  • Bombers cannot win wave 7+ dogfights. Drop your load, run home, switch to a fighter for survival.
  • The Sabre is the best wave-clearer because of its turn rate and burst damage.
  • Strafe AA before bombing crossings — otherwise the AA will finish your run when you slow down.

Frequently asked questions

How many waves are there?

8 named waves, then escalating endless waves with steadily tougher enemies.

Are the named planes accurate to WWII?

They are inspired by the WWII / early Cold War era but rebalanced for arcade play — not historical simulation.

Can the Tu-2 dogfight?

Poorly. The Tu-2 is a tactical bomber — drop bombs first, fight on the way home.
